Ask me anything   Submit   That Spring Summer Feeling: exercises in expressing self, opening up... creating space for celebration/discussion/healing of Black Women and clashing against standards of beauty

twitter.com/EarthenStar:

After much thought and continuing planning, I’m back to blogging with purpose!

This week I am highlighting another divine sista’s work, Iresha Picot. Behavioral therapist, freedom fighter, doula, co-founder of The Assata’s Daughters Project, the Ntozake Shange School of Literary Thought, Black Feminist Working Group, and all around amazing woman! Pictured here are just some of the postcards that belong to this year’s edition of her “Summer for the Sistas” project. She explains it, thus:

Summer for the Sistas is a subversive project that was created by Iresha Picot to combat the rampant party flyers around Philadelphia that exploit Black Women for financial gain and reaffirms the image of the transparent Black Woman: always half-naked in a submissive pose with disjointed and fragmented body parts. This project serves as a need to de-center these damaging images and map out novel ones and compelling words that are dissident to our existence as Black Women. Summer for the Sistas includes [love] messages on the same type of glossy cards that we see these parties advertised on, instead, our cards will be a counter-hegemonic response to those and expound on love, beauty, self-respect, and acknowledgment through messages written by Sistas, for Sistas. Showing that Black Women can be subversive, intervene and transformative to other Black Women.

Today and everyday, I applaud this sister’s work!

If I Could Tell a Sister Something Today….

    It would be…. PROTECTION

We must learn to shield ourselves from the imposition of others. All throughout life, all of our relationships with other human beings and all of our interactions with other human beings. We get projected upon ourselves day in and day out, moment in and moment out, from all others. We get dumped on with other peoples’ grievances, other peoples’ perspectives, other people’s ambitions, other people’s ways to love, other people’s idiosyncrasies, other peoples’ limitations, other people’s baggage! The fact that these people are in our spheres does reflect something about your point in growth in that given period in time, but the issues of that person are their own, just like yours are your own. They are their own selves just as you are your own self.

End now the time when you allow others’ limitations and visions of themselves to predict and dictate the limitations and visions of yourself. Release yourself and wash your SELF of all of those fingerprints!

    Purpose of Kinetic Earth

So, now that I actually have the time to put the effort into building this blog, I have decided on the topics to cover, although I’m still working on the structure, timing, etc. As Kinetic Earth will be a discussion and celebration of all that is Black, beautiful, love and fierce, the following will be the main subject matter that I will post and reblog:

    • Love, Beauty and Fierceness! For all that represents love, wholeness and beauty in all forms that fly against the pre-proscribed standards.

    • Sistas’ Spirits: For all things cultural and spiritual.
    • Sistas’ Curls: All things natural hair and Black women’s hair in general.
    • Sistas’ Health: All about our health, how our bodies do and could function, and of course all things yoni!

    • Inspiration for Sistas: Quick words of encouragement, embracing ourselves and living abundantly.

    • Sistas’ Journeys: Women speaking their experiences and their stories.

    • Sistas’ Expression: Art, expression, speeches, performances.

    • Sistas’ Power: Sexuality, sensuality, femininity.

    • Sistas’ Beauty: Images of us.

    • Sistas’ World: Legislature, news and relevant issues

    • Sistas’ Projects: What are we actually doing and building out here? Will entail features and spotlights.

If I Could Tell A Sister Something Today…

    HONOR:

Learn how to honor your SELF and your capacity to express that self in all its beauty. HONOR your feelings and your responses. They may be hasty. They may be overzealous. But they in each and every moment are yours and yours alone. Even mistakes are parts of your life journey and growth of self. Those mistakes, the manifestations of you, the friends you have or had, and the lovers or partners you have or had, have all been necessary and have reflected something about your point in growth at that time.

    Honor SELF, honor the journey

If I Could Tell a Sister Something Today….

    BE

Stop always getting so caught up in defending and telling what you are to the world that you focus more on that than you focus on simply BEing. You ARE. So BE. It is not your responsibility to always have to convince others of that living, breathing fact, nor any of the other facts and truths thereof. If they care to know, they will come with an open, genuine heart. If not, discern and keep moving. Keep BEing.

If I Could Tell a Sister Something Today….

    It would be “PUSH”

This message is for myself as well. There’s always something else. There’s always something new. There’s always something old. There’s always something reoccurring. There are always things to do. Face them. Take responsibility for what faces you. PUSH through. Make it happen! Put on your thinking cap, those sweats you’re most comfy in or those heels you just know are gonna kill ‘em… and DO IT!

If I Could Tell a Sister Something Today….

haven’t done this in a while but

    It would be… “LOVE”

In all your fuckups, hangups, all your pimples, ingrowns, booboos from when you played just a little too rough growing up… In all your curls and curves and guilty pleasures… In everything that makes your heart skip a beat… In everything that makes your heart scream in anguish… In every favorite pair of heels, every dress, every favorite pair of undies… When you dance in the mirror in your room alone… And those days you don’t feel like wearing makeup

… It is all absolutely beautiful, as the whole package that is YOU! LOVE it! LOVE her! Be LOVE! And all other things will orient themselves as they should be.

Kinetic Earth: The Purpose of this Tumbling LOL

The purpose of this blog is simple. Kinetic for always being in motion or having the potential for motion. Earth for the earth is always moving and always giving birth and always giving life and sustaining life. The comparisons with women and the earth are endless and span many cultures throughout antiquity and still in very contemporary cultures. The original indigenous melanated women of the earth are the first womb bearers of humanity as we know it, and here we are, still moving, still being, still giving birth, still creating. Always moving, always growing, always creating while still being largely our beautiful Black selves as we have always been with little to that blueprint having changed over all these untold millennia. In that interest, I labor to show me, exploring and being my beautiful Black wombman self… and other Black women being their beautiful Black wombman selves. Sometimes although infrequently, that might explore topics that come with our being in this society that are nitty, gritty and downright icky. But even that is the muck that we sit in by sheer virtue of being ourselves and being here.

What I like to do is create a space in my own right where we may see ourselves, be ourselves and express ourselves creatively. I’ll mostly save my political stuff for the other social networking mediums I have unless absolutely pertinent to the selves, experiences and images of Black women.

I also want to show things that touch me, speak to me and say wonderful things. Beauty in other forms, including any group that may not be otherwise considered a standard of beauty, especially other women of color (a term I frankly dislike, but it will do until I find another). That includes beautiful BIG GIRLS, Black men (because we love them and I adore them), other folks from around the world and of course…. THE BABIESSSS! and general lulz LOL!

So… anyone who chooses to follow and share along, welcome. I am grateful. With this “mission” in mind, please share, if you feel so inclined.

    PEACE <3

If I Could Tell a Sister Something Today….

    It would be, “FOCUS”.

Take the proper time to FOCUS on yourself. Quiet as many distractions as possible. The less you absolutely fill your head with the white noise of others’ psychoses, the more SELF will emerge. There’s so much power in that. When you know that and can observe and feel and breathe that, sitting idly and lazily is NOT an option. It’s as if your SELF was just WAITING to be watered! And get to the business of doing what it’s supposed to be doing.
